The Law of Attraction

It’s amazing how much my thinking has changed in such a short time.  I felt inspired to start this website at the end of July.  My only intention was to follow my inner inspirations and see where they led.  Well, amazing things have happened.  Clearly when I started this site, I was in a place where I, at least on some level, believed God to be some force out there that I needed to pray to and hope that He had mercy on me.  Even after I’ve been through so much and let go of so much fear and gained so much in self-esteem, still at some level, that’s what I believed.  I can tell that by re-reading my old posts.

Now only three weeks later, by the middle of August, I’m a completely changed person.  First, I was led to read Louise Hay’s book “You Can Heal Your Life”.  Right away I could see that I’d unconsciously let a lot of negative thinking creep into my life.  I could see that I was expecting the worst (losing my house, living in a van) and since that’s what I was preparing for, that’s what I was manifesting.  Louise’s wonderful book began to lift me out of that.   My daughter and I read the affirmations together on a daily basis.  During the bleakest and scariest moments, this book gave us hope.

From there I was led to read the new book out by Rhonda Byrne (author of “The Secret”) called “The Power.”  For those of you not familiar with it, “The Secret” was basically a book about the Law of Attraction.  The LOA is based on the premises that like attracts like.  What we give out is what we get back.

“The Power” is a truly wonderful book.  In fact I like it better than “The Secret.”  The power that the book’s title refers to is love.  The book inspires us to get into the feeling place of love from which we can create health, financial abundance, wonderful relationships, or whatever our hearts desire.  This book gets you to the point where you feel so good that you don’t even care if any of the stuff you want manifests.  The good feelings are their own reward.  After all that’s the only reason we want the things we want in the first place–to feel good!  But ironically as we feel good, the law of attraction delivers all those good things to us.

Then after reading this book, I was led to read another one called “Feel It Real” by Denise Coates.  (Yeah, I love to read.)  Ms. Coates is a life coach and specialist in the law of attraction.  Her book lays out a five-step approach to use LOA to manifest:

  1. State your desire.
  2. Ask yourself what feelings you might have if you already had that desire.
  3. Get into the feeling place of already having that desire.
  4. Stay in that place for as long as possible each day.
  5. Decide that imagining those feelings is its own reward, knowing that
as you enjoy those feelings the Universe will deliver your desires to
you through the Law of Attraction.

Now I know the Law of Attraction works.  About seven years ago, I had read a book called “Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting” by Lynn Grabhorn.  It was my first introduction to the Law of Attraction.  I was just awestruck by this book.  The author goes into some detail and gives examples about how to use your feelings to attract what you want.  I put its suggestions into practice, and voila, I made amazing things happen.

First, I had been single for about two years diligently searching for the man of my dreams.  One day shortly after reading this book, I met a wonderful guy…but he didn’t seem to have much interest in me.  So I imagined what it would feel like if we were together and how good it would feel.  Within a couple of weeks, he asked me out again.  Within a couple of weeks after that, we were together as boyfriend and girlfriend.  That relationship ended up lasting over two years and we are still close friends to this day.

Second, around the same time, I was working as the accounting manager at a large company when the human resources manager position became available.  I’d always had an interest in working in human resources, but it’s a very different field than accounting, so I didn’t think I had a chance.  However, now I that I new about the Law of Attraction, I decided to put it to the test.   I imagined myself as the new human resources manager for this company.  I felt what it would feel like to have this position.  I believed.  I talked about my idea to the Director of Human Resources and he told me no.  Undaunted, I continued to believe and focus on how good it felt to be the HR manager.  No matter how many times I got turned down by management, I just kept believing and feeling how good it would feel to be in that position.  Then one day out of the blue, I learned that the company’s president had signed the approval for me to be the new HR Manager.  Against all odds, the law of attraction came through and made the seemingly impossible possible.

So I know this stuff works.  But over the years, I had forgotten about it.  I had bought into what the world and the news media teach us.  Namely that life is hard, we’re all victims, we have to settle for scraps, we have to work hard and if we’re very, very lucky, we might just get something good.  But reading these books reminds me that life isn’t meant to be that way at all.  We’re meant to be happy.  God really does love us all and wants us to have our heart’s desires fulfilled.  But we have to meet him halfway by first getting into the feeling place of our desires.

So I’m going to be working the Law of Attraction again.  I want:

  • Plenty of money to pay all my bills.
  • To be successfully self-employed.
  • To have a website that helps people to heal illness naturally.

The practical part of me feels that I should add “get a new job” on the list of wants.  I don’t see how I can make enough money fast enough by being self-employed to save our house.  I hesitate however to put it on the list because in my heart of hearts, I don’t really want a job.  I want to work for myself.  And one of the basic tenets of the Law of Attraction is that you state what you want and let the Universe figure out how to bring it to you.  So I’m going to have faith and stick with that.

The adventure in living by faith continues!
